Military Time Chart or 24 Hour Clock

Military time is  referred to as the astronomical time system that is usually based on a 24 hour clock system. It is a method in which people tend to keep time from one midnight to the proceeding midnight that the time is divided into 24 equal period of hours increments.

It has gained a lot of usage in the world and is the most extensively used system. Some people have a hard time deciphering military time but we want to make it easy for you with our military time chart below.

With this type of system, a day begins at midnight of which it is acknowledged as 00:00. or it may also be written as 24:00 of which both are acceptable and can be used depending on the one you choose.

But the minute before midnight is always noted as 23:59. a good example is the example of recording for example with the common time frame, 6:00 pm is in the 12 hour clock system and of which an equivalent of it in the military time chart would be from 18:00 to 22:00 it is the equivalent of saying the flight will be from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm if considered in the 12 hour clock system.

In cases where by we are dealing with the morning period, let’s say 11:23 am we will just write it a 11:23 while it takes over to the afternoon, we will add 12 hours to the normal 12hour system. For example 3:23 pm will be noted as 15:23 in the military time.

This time system is mostly used by the military as the name suggests, but also other institutions like government, hospitals, astronomy, public transportation, emergency services as well as the computers we use do also come in handy with this military time system.

When it comes to speaking out the time, each number that is displayed on the time is stated. For example 08:00 will be stated as,” zero eight hundred” or similarly might be said as, “oh eight hundred”. When it comes to writing in the military they may tend to drop out the colons and a time like 06:39 may state it down as 0639 with no colons in it.

This time system also acknowledges the different time zones for example the GMT for Greenwich Mean Time and also the Coordinated Universal Time UTC is denoted with a “Z” as the last element in the time for example “0639Z” at the end.

For Local time it is noted as “J” and the same time in the local time would be 0639J. Not forgetting the Eastern Time Zone that is always denoted by the letter “R” and the same time would be 0639R . The respective military time zones have a selected letter and name to it.
